History

Since 1885, we've been providing the people of Northwestern Wisconsin with personal and business banking services. Our commitment to superior, home-town banking began with the establishment of the Bank of Barron in May of 1885 and continued with its merger with Normanna Savings Bank in 1937.

The roots of our Chetek branch date back to December, 1941, when it opened under the name of Indianhead State Bank. In 1974, it changed its name to Chetek State Bank. Then in 2001, Sterling Bank emerged from the consolidation of the Chetek State Bank and the Bank of Barron.

With the addition of branches in Luck in 2002 and Rice Lake in 2004, Sterling Bank expanded it's base to be able to serve even more customers. Today it now has the leverage of nearly $350 million of combined assets. We offer the stability and experience of more than a century of doing business. Most importantly, we provide the personal service that comes from being a community-minded bank.
